Amica provides counselling emotional and psychological support but not policy advice
October is Black History Month – a time to honour and celebrate the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Black people across the UK and around the world. It’s also a time to reflect on the ongoing realities of racism and inequality, and to think about how we can all help build a fairer, more respectful society.
To mark the month, Amica will be hosting a special awareness stall at Leicester General Hospital’s restaurant on 30th October. Everyone is welcome to stop by. Whether you’re curious to learn more, want to reflect, or simply pick up a resource to take away, the stall is there for you.
The space is designed to encourage conversation and learning, and to give people time to think about how we can support each other – both at work and in our wider communities. There’ll be information on Black history and heritage, as well as ideas on how we can all play a part in creating a more inclusive and respectful workplace.
Amica’s counsellors will be on hand throughout the day to offer support or a listening ear. They’ll also be able to signpost help for anyone who wants to talk about how race or identity may be affecting their wellbeing – either personally or professionally. Everything shared is completely confidential.
We know that people’s wellbeing is shaped by many different things, including experiences of exclusion or discrimination. That’s why Amica is committed to making sure every person feels heard, valued, and supported – whatever their background.
Black History Month gives us a moment to pause, to recognise how far we’ve come, and to think about the kind of community we want to create moving forward.
So come along – take a look, have a chat, or just spend a quiet moment at the stall. Everyone is welcome.
