Men’s Health Week returns to Leicestershire and Rutland this June, offering a vital opportunity to focus on the physical and mental health of men across the region. Running from Monday 9th to Sunday 15th June, this dedicated week is all about raising awareness, encouraging honest conversations, and empowering men to take control of their health.
Across the UK, men continue to face significant health challenges – from higher rates of preventable diseases to increased risk of suicide and lower engagement with healthcare services. Men’s Health Week serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of proactive health management, encouraging men to take stock of their well-being and seek support when needed.
Throughout the week, local organisations, health services, and community groups across Leicestershire and Rutland will be hosting activities, campaigns, and health checks designed to get men talking and taking action.
The concept is simple: take time for a full health check-up – not just physically, but mentally too. Whether it’s booking a GP appointment, checking your blood pressure, or simply reflecting on stress levels and emotional health, a “Man MOT” is about giving yourself the same attention you’d give your car or your work.
Mental health will be a central theme. Too often, men suffer in silence. This week provides a safe and supportive space for men to talk openly about issues such as stress, depression, anxiety, and loneliness. Local mental health charities and support networks will be offering information, events, and opportunities to connect.
Men’s Health Week isn’t just about individual action – it’s also about system change. The Men’s Health Forum is using the week to campaign for a dedicated Men’s Health Strategy that tackles preventable illnesses and works to reduce the number of men dying prematurely.
Physical activity is a cornerstone of good health. Local initiatives will be encouraging men to get moving – whether through sports, walking groups, or simply taking the stairs. Leicestershire and Rutland have a wealth of resources to support a more active, healthier lifestyle.
GP Surgeries across the county are encouraging men to come forward for check-ups and consultations.
Mental Health Services such as NHS Talking Therapies service sand local Mind branches are offering tailored support and signposting.
Community Centres and Local Charities are hosting events, workshops, and group activities designed to boost connection and reduce isolation.
In addition to local support, national organisations provide valuable resources:
Whether you’re already active and health-conscious or you’re just starting to think about making changes, Men’s Health Week is a chance to reflect, reset, and reach out.
Let’s make 2025 the year we prioritise men’s health – not just for a week, but for life.
